WHAT IS QI GONG?

Qigong is the several thousand year old  Chinese practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation.

WHAT IS "MEDICAL" QI GONG?

This ancient form of Chinese energetic medicine is one of the four main branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine, along with acupuncture, herbal medicine, and medical massage.  Healing occurs through balancing qi energy, or life force, which surrounds and pervades all living creatures. It centers around helping the meridians to flow using a combination of massage, trigger point therapy, or acupressure, and energy work.  Each session is tailored to your current physical needs and is performed fully clothed.

WHO DOES IT BENEFIT?

Medical Qi Gong can be used as a relaxing pick-me-up or stress reliever in lieu of a traditional massage, or can be used to assist in the treatment of physical ailments and disabilities. It has been found to be  beneficial for patients with Cerebral Palsy, Parkinsons, High Blood Pressure, Low Blood Pressure, Anxiety and Depression.

Medical Qigong has been used successfully to treat difficult, stubborn, and sometimes chronic conditions that do not respond well to other types of chinese medicine. Children, the elderly, people in frail health, and highly sensitive people tend to respond better to Medical Qigong than other TCM modalities. Case studies show that Qigong can (1) dramatically help illnesses such as hypertension, asthma, and insomnia; (2) prevent arteriosclerosis and spinal deformity; and (3) shorten the recovery phase from long-term illness.

A study conducted in China indicates that Qigong and Tai Chi may increase the number of T lymphocytes in the body. Also known as T-Cells, these lymphocytes help the immune system destroy bacteria and possibly even tumor cells.

Traditional health practitioners who encounter clients facing problems which do not seem to respond to traditional health care may employ some of the health traditions of other cultures which view the body and mind as a balanced whole. Qigong focuses on the mind-body connection to help facilitate healing through relaxation, breathing, and movement. So just relax, and enjoy the natural healing process.

Wishing you all Good Qi.
